Turn a PNG or JPG into an SVG cut file for Cricut Design Space or Silhouette, with each colour on its own layer, ready to cut.
Why cutting machines need a vector
Cutting machines follow lines, not pixels. A PNG uploaded to a cutting app usually becomes a single shape you have to clean up by hand. An SVG brings in every colour as its own layer, with smooth outlines the blade can follow.
How to make a Cricut SVG
Drop your image above.
For vinyl and paper, open Advanced settings and turn off Smooth gradients, so every colour is a flat shape you can cut. For a single-colour decal, choose Black & white.
Tick Transparent background and download the SVG.
In Cricut Design Space, choose Upload, then Upload Image, and pick the SVG. Each colour comes in as its own layer.
Tips for cutting and weeding
Fewer colours means fewer layers to cut: limit Colors in Advanced settings, or merge colours in the colour list after converting.
Lower Detail to drop tiny specks. They are wasted cuts and hard to weed.
Very thin lines and small text are hard to weed in vinyl. Make the design larger or simplify it before cutting.
Silhouette Studio: SVG import needs Designer Edition or higher. On the free Basic Edition, open the DXF instead.
